This Bunn was a gift for someone who admired this model at my home. I have owned mine for approx. two years, it replaced a previous Bunn coffee maker I had owned for about 6 years and had absolutely no problems with what so ever. To be honest we replaced the old Bunn coffe maker because we just greatly preferred this new style to the old Bunn style and its modern styling fit better with some recent updates to our kitchen. This model also fits better if you have short depth counters vs. the traditional Bunn.
Everyone in my family owns Bunn's (Parents and Two Brothers, we all own them based on their reliability and performance, I have personally experienced this while growing up with one in my parents house. My parents have owned their current one for about 15 years and had replaced a previous one owned for many many years. I am personally in the retail industry, where we sell coffee makers, unfortunately we do not sell Bunn's, but I can guarantee you none of the other Brands hold up or work as well as a Bunn. |

There were no surprises -- it makes a full pot of excellent coffee, fast, in 3 minutes. Because it holds heated water all the time, instead of heating it during the brewing cycle, it is able to do that. (Time your conventional coffeemaker some time). Some commenter's have worried that it wastes a lot of energy keeping the water hot. I examined it during an active heating cycle (the cold water you add to start the brewing cycle gets heated but it's not the water that goes into the pot). There was no place on it that was more than somewhat warm (except for the fresh pot of coffee, of course). That seems to indicate that it is pretty well insulated so energy costs are likely fairly low. It makes terrific coffee, clean and tasty, from ordinary fresh ground beans. I haven't tried brewing anything exotic yet, but I imagine that will taste even better.

| I use one heaping tablespoon of beans for every two "cups" of water in the decanter, plus one, finely ground (but not powder). I'm sure you already know this, but a 10 cup coffee maker actually makes only 5 regular mugs of coffee. However coffee makers still use the volume of the old fashioned cup and saucer as the standard for a "cup". You may prefer stronger coffee, use more beans, YMMV. It doesn't splash during filling, it doesn't leak. It doesn't make rude noises during brewing (it's almost silent, in fact). |

Like the gentleman before me that wrote about the housing coming apart; the same thing happened to my coffee maker. I sent an email to Bunn telling them the issue, and they sent me a new coffee maker the next day. No questions asked. If you own one of the "defective" units, I recommend not throwing it away, but take the time to contact Bunn. Good company. Regarding the coffee maker itself - if you get past the defective ones, you'll find one of the best coffee makers out there.
I've owned quite a few coffee makers, and I swear by this one above the rest. You get a consistent great tasting product each and every time you use it, and quickly. I loved mine so much, I bought one for my sister so I could have the same quality coffee when I'm over visiting. |
